In most cases, jukugo are read using the on-yomi (Chinese-style pronunciation), but there are exceptions—some jukugo are pronounced with kun-yomi (Japanese-style pronunciation), while others mix on-yomi and kun-yomi to create ｛重箱読じゅうばこよ｝み (on followed by kun) and, less frequently, ｛湯桶読ゆとうよ｝み (kun followed by on).
